Entrance Floor and Cellar
The entrance floor is divided into two rooms by a post or plank wall – a layout typical of interior spaces during the High and Late Middle Ages.
Immediately behind the elevated entrance, there is a trapdoor in the floor of the antechamber, through which one can descend into the cellar via a solid timber staircase. This ground-level floor, ventilated by narrow slit openings, was used in residential towers as a storage and cellar space.
Passing through the wooden post wall of the ground floor, one enters the heated chamber, where a wall chimney can be lit. The room is illuminated by a narrow slit window and was used as a private living chamber.
A solid timber staircase in the antechamber leads to the main residential floor above.
