Gaudium Stations

At the foot of Siegfriedstein Castle, two covered shelters provide space for creative and entertaining activities aimed at school classes up to Year 9, as well as for families. These are offered as modular components that can be individually arranged to suit different age groups and interests.

Following a guided tour of the castle construction site, children and/or adults gather here to take part in hands-on activities – such as working with soapstone. Once finished, the carved soapstone can be turned into an amulet and lucky charm using a leather cord – perhaps to ward off evil spirits, as people believed in the Middle Ages. Others may use a lucet fork to braid a cord, or paint their very own coat of arms onto a wooden shield.

Other popular traditional games are also offered here, including skittles, sack races, crossbow shooting, and dice games. The dice symbolise fate and the unpredictable nature of life. Not only are they associated with gambling and luck, but dice were also given as New Year’s gifts to represent good fortune.
