Gaudium Stations
At the foot of Siegfriedstein Castle, two covered shelters provide space for creative and engaging activities for school classes up to Year 9, as well as families. These activities are organised as modular components, allowing them to be adapted to different age groups and interests.
Following a guided tour of the castle construction site, participants gather here to take part in hands-on activities, such as working with soapstone. Once completed, the carved soapstone can be made into an amulet or lucky charm using a leather cord – perhaps to ward off evil spirits, as was commonly believed in the Middle Ages. Others may use a lucet fork to braid a cord or paint their own coat of arms onto a wooden shield.
A range of traditional games is also available, including skittles, sack races, crossbow shooting, and dice games. Dice symbolise fate and the unpredictable nature of life. While they are associated with gambling and luck, they are also given as New Year’s gifts to represent good fortune.
